UK to revive Teletubbies

Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po are heading back to their tubby telly screen.

2014-06-15_0111Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po are set to entertain a new generation of fans with news that the UK will revive kid’s series, Teletubbies.

Producers DHX Media have announced that 60 new instalments will feature the colourful characters but the styling will have a “contemporary look”.

The new series will be filmed on replica model sets instead of the original setting in Warwickshire that doubled as Teletubbyland.

Kay Benbow, Controller at CBeebies, said: “Teletubbies is an enduringly popular series with our youngest viewers, although no new episodes have been made for over ten years. I think that now is the right time to create new episodes of this much-loved, iconic show for the current CBeebies audience.”

Teletubbies launched on the BBC in 1997, attracting a cult following with older generations, mainly university and college students and leading to US evangelist Jerry Falwell suggesting that Tinky Winky was a homosexual role model for children.

  1. Will they be the same actors? e.g Pui Fan Lee as Po? I like her style on Show Me Show Me with Chris Jarvis. That’s a fun show too that I enjoy watching with the tinlids.

    @Tex – Maybe a tablet instead of a Widescreeen?? 😉

  2. I’m excited about this. This was my favorite show when I was a kid, I use to always watch it. I like them bringing it back because kids programs these days are boring and kids should have the chance to know what a good kids program is.

  3. @Chuck128: It’s in the article; “the styling will have a “contemporary look”.”

    I’m betting widescreen TVs in their stomachs & satellite dishes on the side of their heads…

    (They were going to include a red button to access special content, but the BBC Community Standards unit didn’t like where they put it…)

  4. What’s the point making new eps of a show aimed at 2-4 year olds? You have enough eps to show at the target audience who then moves on to other stuff and a new cohort takes their place. Stoned Uni students won’t notice that they’re watching repeats either…
