Nine Perth holds informal talks on WAFL coverage

Nine Network is understood to have had an informal discussion with WA Football Commission heavyweights last week amid uncertainty surrounding sponsorship for Seven to take over broadcasts of WAFL matches next year.

ABC’s coverage of games is expected to end a 25 year run with the current season.

News Corp reports negotiations for a $350,000 deal from one major sponsor and four others at $200,000 each for Seven’s deal have fallen over.

Football commission chief of operations Nick Sautner said negotiations with Seven were continuing.

Nine stations in both Perth and Adelaide have previously announced grass-roots deals with local community groups as a way to build brand loyalty in Seven strongholds.
