Jessie J joins The Voice

Jessie J joins Ricky Martin, both Joel and Benji Madden and a returning Delta Goodrem.

2015-01-13_1537UK singer Jessie J has been confirmed for the coaching panel for The Voice 2015, joining Ricky Martin, both Joel and Benji Madden and a returning Delta Goodrem.

26 year old Jessie J, best known for the songs Price Tag and Bang Bang with Nicky Minaj and Ariane Grande, becomes the youngest-ever coach for the local series.

It’s also the first time the adult edition has had more than one female coach. She has already judged two seasons of The Voice UK.

“I love being a Coach and sharing my knowledge and experience in vocals and in music. I learnt so much and really enjoyed being on The Voice UK for two series. I have loved continuing my support for the show by being a guest and getting to perform with contestants from all over the world and I’m so excited to get back in the red chair!! I love Australia and I can’t wait to see what voices I might discover,” she said.

Delta Goodrem also returns to the big red chair, following The Voice: Kids in 2014.

“I’m thrilled to be starting the new year with incredible Coaches on a show that I’m very proud of being a part of and looking forward to discovering great Australian talent,” she said.

Benji Madden, who also coached on The Voice: Kids, will sit alongside original coach, his brother Joel.

“We can’t wait to get back to Australia for The Voice 2015! We are looking forward to reuniting with Delta and Ricky as well as welcoming Jessie J to the show. This year is going to be an exciting one. Double the chair, double the fun. Let’s go” the Madden Bros said.

The all-star coaching lineup will be rounded out by Grammy Award-winning Latin superstar Ricky Martin, who will return for his third season as a Coach.

Ricky Martin added, “I’m very excited to uncover the talents of the fourth Season. I can’t wait to hear fresh voices and get up close and personal with amazingly talented artists. I’m ready for an intense season with Team Ricky and my fellow Coaches.”

Darren McMullen will also return as host.

“I’m super excited to be coming home and hosting the fourth season of the best talent show in the world. It’s a real privilege to work with such a dedicated team of top-notch Coaches and professionals, let alone the incredible talents that The Voice will uncover … I’m ready for the biggest season yet!” he said.

Blessed with an astounding voice and natural knack for a hook, Jessie J redefines what’s possible within pop as she upholds its traditions, and is one of a kind. With album sales in excess of three million and single sales topping 20 million, Jessie has established herself as a superstar and a palpable, powerful pop culture force.

In 2011, the world first took notice of the UK-born singer-songwriter with her album Who You Are, which debuted in the Top 15 on the Billboard Top 200 and generated six Top 10 hits. Price Tag (featuring hip hop artist B.o.B.) went platinum in the USA and was No. 1 in 18 major territories. Domino, her biggest US hit to date, then went double-platinum and become an anthem around the globe.

Jessie has received the prestigious BRIT Award for Critic’s Choice and the BBC crowned her with the “Sound of 2011” honour. In 2012, she earned a Grammy Award nomination for Silver Lining and was embraced by fans as she acted as the 2012 London Olympic Games Ambassador.

She has continued to stand out in 2014, teaming up with rising diva Ariana Grande and rap’s reigning queen, Nicki Minaj, for Bang Bang, which captured the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Overall Top Songs Chart and went gold within weeks of release. It set the stage for the October release of her Sweet Talker album.

  1. Don’t watch The Voice, or X-Factor. Why not look to the past for coaches? How about looking to the past and hiring older and more experienced artists like Marcia Hines who did Australian Idol or maybe even Olivia Newton-John or Colleen Hewett? I can at least understand making the Madden brothers a team as they are twins and have obviously been together all their lives. How about also Russell Morris – he had a very good year with Sharkmouth. Also Harry Vanda and George Young who have written so many hit songs.

  2. I don’t watch The Voice, but Australians seem to be seriously unrepresented as judges, apart from the plastic Delta Goodrem. So we have enough talent to perform on the show, but not enough to employ our own, much more experienced talent, as judges?

  3. Jono: Kylie has sold over 65 million albums and has number one hits in over 40 countries. I wouldn’t compare Kylie to a flavour of a month singer. Also Kylie is a songwriter having written many songs on her albums. I like Jessie J myself but don’t compare apples to oranges.

  4. Kylie Minogue is boring and Historic. Bringing Jessie J is going to be fun and modern, because she has a great personality and is a popular in-modern times. When was the last time Kylie had a hit song, she’s Madonna expired.

  5. I thought Kylie had great chemistry with the other judges, especially Joel. From what I saw of The Voice Kids (which wasn’t a lot), Joels brother doesn’t talk much, so why have him? Don’t know who Jessie J is and much prefered Kylie over Delta, so at this stage, not really keen to watch this year.

  6. @Geoff Field – Jessie J is currently a much bigger worldwide artist than Kylie. Yes Kylie is big in the UK but Jessie J is big all around the world. Her big advantage over Kylie is that she is also a songwriter, having written for Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus and others. My comment was not to knock Kylie, as I think she is great but just to give Jessie J the credit she deserves as people are saying who is Jessie J.

  7. As my 65yr old The Voice loving mother said “who’s Jessie J?” Most people over 35 wouldn’t have a clue who she is. On a side note, does Australia have enough singing talent to sustain these shows? The talent last year on all forms of sing-a-longs was pretty ordinary in 2014.

  8. Tick for Jessie J, crosses for both Delta and The Madden Bros.
The Voice, unfortunately isn’t a viable route for artists. This has been proven time after time all around the world.

This show promises a pop career and it just can’t back up its promises. The Voice does not have a single claim to a successful artist and it’s heading into a fourth season and I totally blame the format along with Universal Music. The format doesn’t allow you to really connect with people and ultimately it suffers.
People love to bag The X Factor but it really is the superior show. It delivers on a decent launching pad for the winner, it’s a great example of a production company and record label working together and let’s be honest, every single winner bar Altiyan Childs still has a record deal and are making records.

  9. Are you serious Jonno?
Kylie is the biggest selling female singer in UK history with 3 decades of hits to show for it.
Jessie J had just one big hit here with Price Tag, a minor follow up and then teamed up with Nicky Minaj and Ariana Grande!

  10. Can someone explain to me why we have 2 x Madden brothers as one coach? Wouldn’t their team have an advantage by having 2 coaches? I just don’t get it….

  11. I would have rather seen the Madden twins as separate coaches than bring in Jesse J from the failing UK version. Their dynamic fighting for contestants would have been epic.
Nice to see Delta & Ricky back.
