Rumour: Rove to return to late night TV?
Could Rove be about to return to hosting variety in a late-night spot on TEN?

Rove hosting a late night TV show on TEN?
It’s the latest rumour doing the rounds, today published by News Corp.
Of course for much of Rove‘s success on TEN his show was not really late nights but an 8:30 primetime vehicle, which attracts revenue that helps pay for a sizeable Live show budget. Maybe TEN has found a way to cut costs (no advertorials please).
But a TEN spokesman denied the rumours, along with the man himself, attending the AACTA Awards.
“Really, where did you hear that?” he asked the newspaper.
TEN recently indicated it would air James Cordon’s late night US show but not Steven Colbert’s.
McManus last guest-hosted The Project for TEN in December.

My two cents: film in late afternooon (5:30ish), get the audience involved and excited (maybe they go to daily taping of this show then move on to audience at The Project?)
Rove is a little done. He was quirky a few years back but a little embarrassing now. If his stint on The Project were a test of audience response, he’s done!
We need current: Tommy Little would be perfect. It seems all too easy!
Does this come from the same people who brought us the Blankety Blanks rumours?
Such a show would be a good move by Ten. There was talk last year Larry Edmur was going to host a late night show on 7. That never eventuated.
@geoff field – roves show wasn’t axed previously. 10 wanted to continue with it, but rove wanted to end it.
Saw the last paragraph on the news corp article and it’s one of the reasons Rove/hey hey whatever need to be back. Australian Tv has no variety/live show outside of The Project/morning tv.
Where’s the place for the movie/TV stars and music artists? Ok they can have a small 2 min chat on the project maybe but no performances like rove, hey hey and the panel allowed. Have to wait until X factor returns so they can perform on the results show or suffer on morning tv.
Those rumours on miscallef having a live show on 10 seemed to have sadly died so hopefully rove can return then instead.
We need a live variety/chat show!! Hopefully TEN can start a trend where Seven and Nine will copy.
If it goes ahead that would be great…We are in a desperate need in Australia for a variety show so overseas guests can visit.Instead of more reality crap.If Channel 10 reads this what about Conan guys.It has not been screened in Australia for many months it’s about time Conan was aired again
I did not like Rove doing The Project….but thoroughly enjoyed his performance on Its a Date and I would really like to see him do something like Rove Live again…I really liked that show…
I totally agree with andrewb …that is needs a steady hand on the tiller…same time same day…no messing around with it…hopefully they have learnt from the original messing around with The Project…almost killed that program.
I would be glad to watch home again. Liked his stint on The Project
They moved Rove to Sundays nights which wont work.
I like Rove, but am I correct in stating the show suffered from poor ratings before it was axed?
Seven announces Steve Vizard’s return to late night with new episodes of Tonight Live.
Rove’s original late night show (on 9 I think) was low budget from memory and it was funny. I’d happily have him back.
Yes – we need a late night show at least once a week so local and international stars and guests have something they can appear on other than morning TV, ACA, Project, etc.
Problem is with the way programming is in Australia is that the start time will be somewhat random between 10.30-something and 11-something which would be any such shows’ immediate demise.
It would have to air at the same time every time it airs.
Can we have Good News Week back please?
Agree @Michael Young. I think we have moved on from Rove.
Glad to hear it’s not happening. Rove chews the scenery as evidence on his stint on The Project. I would love to see a talk show/variety show back on air, but with a different host.
My vote would be for a SNL style show for 9.30 Wednesdays or the likes.
Breeding ground for comedians – keep them all on contract and Ten talent.
The world sucks balls at the moment (well, we’re more exposed to it than ever), so i really can’t understand why the commercials aren’t coming out blazing with new comedies.
The lack of comedy (apart from the ABC, where it’s usually tonally ABC) is starkly obvious isn’t it?
If so let it not be once a week. Week nights would be good. It needs to be relevant to current news and with the 1 hour news cycle once a week would be pointless.
Hope something can come of this. Late night will allow him to truly be in his element, but I’d say 9.30 Wednesday would be great. I am of course ignoring the fact that he has denied it.
Oh, for pity sake. I am bored already!
He is yesterday’s news … sorry.
I personally think this could work if given the right night. Sunday nights are not the right night. Needs to be a week night and probably Wednesday would be the best fit. Like 95% of shows they could have encores for the next few days or broadcast it over the three channels at the same LOL
I hope so, Australia needs more variety/talk shows
I really hope this is true. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but Rove Live is the type of show that’s really missing from our screens at the moment.
That’s great news, but,i would prefer a early evening timeslot.
