On Friday night TEN held a function to mark Sandra Sully’s 25 years at the network at the MCA rooftop function overlooking Sydney’s Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House.

CEO Hamish McLennan said: “You are very special…I don’t think we would do this for too many people. Twenty five years in this business is quite an achievement in what can be a brutal business. She is testament to the fact that good people do get ahead.”

TEN News boss Peter Meakin said, “We all have good reason to be grateful to Sandra Sully and her performance over 25 years. Sandra has been the jewel in our crown, a constant and reassuring voice. She has been here whether the network was in the jungle or the wilderness.”

He also acknowledged he had tried to poach her to other networks.

“Thanks to Hamish for helping create a TEN spirit. It is wonderful to feel the momentum is back with us again. I have had the privilege of working with some of the best in the business. Every weeknight we win the hour across the country in every state. It might not be primetime, but we win week-in week-out and we are damn proud,” said Sully.

  1. Congratulations Sandra! (I’m sure Kay McGrath from BTQ7 received similar gala 5years ago when she celebrated her milestone. Or as a token from TPTB, did they show their appreciation by demoting her, when Rod & Kay were “untouchable ” in the ratings & tossing her a old dying bunch of roses?). In the risk of sounding like I’m ‘living in da past man’, I miss the Late Night News Battle, which had everything. Poaching! Axing! Well that’s all I can think of right now. Go Sandra Go!

  2. well deserved to the lovely Sandra! She has been a consummate professional & just speaks so well. I especially remember her coverage of the 9/11 attacks where she spoke with poise, dignity, compassion and kept her cool under very testing circumstances.
