For the first time Foxtel will simulcast Game of Thrones at the same time as the US.

The season premiere, taking place in a global simulcast of 170 countries will air 11am on Monday April 13 on Showcase.

Previously Australian viewers had to wait until US fans had watched the show, several hours later.

Included in the simulcast are the HBO branded networks: HBO Asia, HBO Canada, HBO Europe, HBO Latin America, HBO Netherlands and HBO Nordic. Also included are international “Home of HBO” services including: Africa/M-Net, Belgium(Flemish)/Telenet, France/Orange, Iceland/365 Media, Israel/DBS, Sky Deutschland,Sky Italia and Sky New Zealand. Additional HBO broadcast partners participating in the simulcast include: Belgium(French)/Betv, Greece/Intervision, Russia/Amedia and Spain/DTS.

Game of Thrones remains a huge runaway hit and season 5 has a plethora of compelling storylines that will play out to their inevitable, often bloody conclusions. After the shocking deaths in season 4 (Joffrey, Tywin, Oberyn, Shae), this new season begins with a power vacuum that protagonists across Westeros and Essos look to fill. At Castle Black, Jon Snow (Kit Harington) struggles to balance the demands of the Night’s Watch with those of newly-arrived Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane), who styles himself the rightful king of Westeros.

Meanwhile, Cersei (Lena Headey) scrabbles to hold on to power in King’s Landing amidst the Tyrells and the rise of a religious group led by the enigmatic High Sparrow (introducing Jonathan Pryce), while Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) embarks on a secret mission. Across the Narrow Sea, Arya (Maisie Williams) seeks an old friend while a fugitive Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) finds a new cause. And as danger mounts in Meereen, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) finds that her tenuous hold on the city requires some hard sacrifices. This season features some of the most explosive scenes yet, as the promise that “winter is coming” becomes more ominous than ever before.

It will also include a prime time replay at 7.30pm.

  1. One day we will have Global Television with simultaneous broadcasting to every corner of the circular globe.

Of course, the vast majority of it will still be s**t.

  2. I don’t watch the show (& i dont watch sport either, yes must be something wrong with me lol) but this is awesome news for the industry in general i hope, they are finally starting to see things our way!

  3. I noticed this the other day on the Showcase website when I was scouring for returning dates of some of my favourite shows to put in my diary. This is awesome news!

  4. Well, Excuse me! This is not Doctor Who you know! 🙂
I just do not get why people are obsessed with GOT … I tried twice to watch it but failed to get to the end of Season 1 both times … maybe it is just something for the non-Who Fans to get addicted to??? 🙁

    1. Nope. I am a dyed-in-the-wool Whovian and I am also a fan of GOT.

Not to the extent of giving Rupert any money for it though 😛

I cannot, for the life of me, get why people are so obsessed with seeing things “as close as possible” to the other side of the world. For example, the Superbowl is over and done while I am at work. I will always know who wins before I see the game. But that doesn’t stop me from settling down in the afternoon, heating up my hot dogs and drinking some truly awful Yank beer while watching the full 6 hours with my friends. True fans do not care when they watch it, as the journey is what matters, not the destination.

And yes, I know there will be spoilers on the Internet and blah blah blah. But if you are watching a show just to hop on the Internet and post some OMGs at the end of an episode, then you are not a fan.

      For God’s sake it’s TV!…
