TV Tonight now has a new Category for Streaming TV articles.

Located below Pay TV & Programming on the Home Page, this will now include news relevant to Netflix, Presto, Stan etc.

Previously these had appeared under Pay TV but I’ve decided to give these a dedicated section on the site. Clearly this is a new and rapidly changing part of the TV landscape, that I envisage will only get bigger and better.

A new Streaming button has also been added to the top Menu, plus a separate Drop Down button listing select Streaming titles (eg. House of  Cards, Better Call Saul etc).

A reminder that the recently-launched Video section also includes clips and stories which may not necessarily appear on the Home page. I would encourage you to dip in and dip out!

As you can see with the latest Streaming section, TV Tonight continues to re-evaluate industry change as well as putting the news at your finger tips.

Enjoy!

David.

  1. You are brilliant David!
I was already getting a bit annoyed with streaming news being included in the Pay section!
Foxtel is easy and terrific – a box with an accurate EPG and easy programming and storage. (OK, I pay too much I know)
I was planning on subbing to Stan and/or Netflix too, but have decided it’s just too hard (have only an old laptop, no smart phone, no wifi etc).
One day perhaps, but can’t yet see the need to buy more stuff for just a few programs, when there aren’t enough hours to watch what I get already!

  2. But @Andrew76, as I’ve mentioned before – everyone jumps onto social media during the ad breaks in reality show – you can see the spike every time, so I wonder how long advertisers will be prepared to shell out bigs bucks if no-one is paying attention?

    1. Shows like Coles invest big bucks into MKR while Mitre 10/Good Guys invest money into The Block and there are a few smaller ones as well, this is what I mean. 7 or 9 don’t have to pay the money to put a show to air in where they would normally have to pay the rights for.

    2. The Networks aren’t stupid, they know that viewers aren’t going sit still during an ad break. Commercial breaks are becoming less relevant, “branded integration” or product placement is the name of the game. It’s been described as the “reality” of “reality TV”. Try watching the footy without being distracted by a logo! It’s the price we pay for “free” TV.

  3. And guess what – Streaming services will show “real numbers” as long as these logs are reported to Oztam/Nielsen etc…….properly..

  4. Hi David, got a question about Fetch , could some one tell me does the Fetch box had all the catch up tv sites on them or are they local to your post code, ? i know jumpin is not on the Fetch box, Ie Freeview Plus is only available bases on the local tv stations, i ask because i am think of moving to the central coast in NSW , Thanks

  5. Great news David, the more information that gets to the public about streaming, and that the viewer now has multiple choices, then FTA and Foxtel are going to have to realise that a glut of rubbish reality programs are just not going to cut it anymore, and they too have to adjust their modelling to suit the viewer, if they are to retain an audience …..

    1. The only thing is FTA will keep making reality as long as people keep watching It. Reality TV is cheaper to make than making a good quality local drama and it keeps the advertising dollers coming

  6. Awesome news Mr Knox. Agree that streaming/VoD will change the Aus TV landscape and it’s great to see you giving it the recognition and prominence that I think it now deserves.

Will you soon be registering the domain name “streamingtonight.com.au” to get in before the cybersquatters?
