1. No doubt after the news they will go straight into the special and then after that is finished they will straight away announce “The following programme is rated …” before the programme starts – and there will be no announcement of the non-showing of the movies that they have replaced.

2. Every station has a library of obituaries ready, just to be updated. This is how a rather vague Australian at Sky News in London saw a videotape of the Queen mum’s obit being edited, phoned his own mum in Brisbane, who phoned 4BH, who broadcast the “news” without checking, which in turn was picked up by all other radio and TV, repeated again without checking, telling the world that “the Queen Mother has died”. CNN has a template that they follow for all obits but sometimes hasty editing misses something. Dick Cheney for example was described as the ‘UK’s favorite grandmother’.

3. They got that special together pretty quickly… me thinks it’s been in the archives for a while now and they were waiting for the moment to come.
