Sunday Night‘s Ross Coulthart is returning to Nine to join 60 Minutes.
The Australian reports the move was only finalised yesterday in a move it describes as ‘blindsiding’ Seven.
“It feels like coming home in a way,” said Coulthart. “60 Minutes is the holy grail of journalism jobs and I am honoured to be finding a new place at the network where it all started for me — back with so many of my mates at Nine, and I’m looking forward to breaking some great yarns.”
Executive producer Tom Malone said, “Ross has formidable investigative skills which will strengthen 60 Mins and I think 60 Mins will also give Ross an opportunity to explore stories he hasn’t been able to do in the past.”
His exit follows recent change at Sunday Night following the departure of exec producer Mark Llewellyn, replaced by former Foreign Correspondent boss Steve Taylor.
Coulthart was previously a reporter on Sunday.

I Think both shows are much the same but with a slightly different format. They both at times can be brilliant but other times a bit average. Ross is a great gain for 60 minutes. Very credible.
Disagree chk chk, think Sunday night is far superior with their stories compared to 60 minutes, a much better production, but there again it would not do for everyone to enjoy the same thing.
60 minutes is a misleading show. It should be called 40 odd minutes.
Sunday night is a far better show. 60 mins is very old fashioned and done to a formula that never changes. At least SN sticks it’s head out and does stories in a fresh way, different every week
I don’t know what others think, but in my opinion, that story about Ivan Milat on Sunday Night came across as b.s. How convenient to come up with such a revelation in time for their Catching Milat show.
Hopefully this signals 60 Minutes returning to more in-depth stories and much less celebrity puff pieces.
It’s always had a celebrity profile. Even George, Ray and Jana did those. Important to have the colours of the spectrum, not just crime, politics, war, economy etc.
60 Minutes is the holy grail? Sure, it’s a step up from Sunday Night but why set your sights so low? Perhaps he’s talking about ratings.
Secret Sqiirrel : Disagree 60 Minutes is a far better Current Affairs show.
Sunday Night having Mike Willesee & Darryn Hinch.doing interviews
Give me a break.
buggirob; i totally agree with you. i love 60minutes and i never watch sunday night.
If you actually read my comment you’ll see that I wrote that 60M was a step up from SN; ie better. It’s just not a patch on 4 Corners or Dateline.
This move speaks volumes about SN more than it does 60 Minutes. It says SN is the poor cousin
This is a good move, I really thought he’ll join 60Mins when Sunday was axed but instead went to SN which is the dumb version of 60Mins
