Aussie Eurovision jury have cast their votes in 1st Semi

Who knew? Eurovision juries don't vote in the actual broadcasts -but for the Dress Rehearsals.

Australia’s Eurovision jury have already cast their votes for the First Semi Final.

The team of 5 gathered earlier this morning to view the Dress Rehearsal of the First Semi, which takes place at 5am tomorrow morning Australian time.

It’s a little-known fact that under EBU rules all the juries cast their votes based on Dress Rehearsals.

This morning the Aussie jury (pictured L to R: Richard Wilkins, Amanda Pelman, Ash London, Jake Stone and Danielle Spencer) made their picks of the first 16 acts in Vienna. Their decisions represent 50% of the Australian vote.

After his duties were done, Richard Wilkins then did a Live cross to the Today show, given it’s on air at the same time as the Euro time zone.

The Aussie jury will also gather on Thursday and Saturday morning to cast votes on the Second Semi and Grand Final respectively. Oddly, the rule does not factor for an act hitting a bum not or having a mishap on the day. But Eurovision has never been easy to explain….

The other 50% of the vote is up to viewers with Live voting taking place on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday morning during the 5AM AEST broadcast.

Lee Lin Chin will read out our votes in the Final on Sunday.

“I’m not worried about being up early,” she assures, “I’ll just have to take a break from the clubs for 20 minutes.”

  1. I tried to vote this morning but couldn’t.

I kept getting a message stating that this number was disconnected. And yes I did follow the instructions that were displayed on the screen.

    Anyone else have problems voting?

  2. Evidently, this is why Blue didn’t far as well as expected when they represented the UK a few years back. Apparently their performance at the Jury Final on the Friday night was awful. They finished 11th overall – 5th in the public vote and 21st in the Jury vote!
