Finland breaks the barriers by sending four middle-aged intellectually disabled men performing Punk. Yep, it must be Eurovision.
Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät – Aina mun pitää (Finland) (Eurovision Song Contest: Semi Final One)
Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät (PKN) is a punk band that was formed in 2009. Pertti Kurikka, the band’s guitarist and front man, writes the lyrics with vocalist Kari Aalto and composes the music. The other two members of the band are bassist Sami Helle and drummer Toni Välitalo.
”The members of our band are four middle-aged, mentally handicapped men. The music is, of course, Finnish punk.” – Sami Helle, Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät
The band achieved cult status with its first demo Kallioon and has since released 7 EP’s, 2 singles and two compilations. In May 2015 the band will release a new compilation The Best of Greatest Hits which includes all the band’s recordings to date.
PKN is also popular outside Finland. The band has toured in several countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Canada and the Netherlands.
PKN was the subject of an award-winning documentary, Kovasikajuttu (The Punk Syndrome) which premiered in the spring of 2012.
