Mark Latham tells Kochie: “D***heads” don’t know what they’re talking about

Former Labor leader accuses Sunrise host of a "love-in" with the PM -and then goes a tad further.

Former Labor leader turned commentator Mark Latham was part of robust post-Budget debate this morning on Sunrise that got somewhat personal, even for host David Koch.

During the political point scoring former Victorian Liberal leader Jeff Kennett asked, “When did you ever run a bloody small business?”

“I’m a media commentator making a few bob, but why do you need to be running a small business to know about the economy?” Latham asked.

“Kochie, I’ve got something you haven’t got, and I’ve got something Jeff Kennett will never have, and that’s an economics degree.

“So Kochie, instead of you having a little love-in with the Prime Minister, how about putting some real fiscal questions to him, instead of kissing him on the cheek?”

But later after a few more exchanges with Koch and Kennett laughing at Latham’s colourful replies, the former Labor leader ended with: “It’s all about d***heads talking about stuff they know nothing about, that’s what it’s about.”

  1. Mark Latham made uneducated comments regarding mental health on 3aw this afternoon. These comments were both inappropriate and in poor taste.

  2. Maybe Koch doesn’t have an economics degree, but he has an Accounting one and was a director of the NSW Small Business Development Corporation for 8 years, so he’s qualified enough to talk.

  3. Thankyou Sunrise. I learned a great deal from that exchange and I can now see that I should be adding a healthy dose of morning television to my routine so I can keep up with national affairs. I’ve always found the best debates occur between people in three separate locations – hundreds of kilometres apart. You’ve proved that theory correct.
