Rebel Wilson makes light of ageless argument

"OMG I'm actually a 100 year old mermaid," Rebel Wilson declares after tabloid debate about her age.

Good to see Rebel Wilson throw some humour into a tabloid debate, after suggestions she had ‘lied’ about her age (and it’s not even the silly season).

While media articles spend time speculating about whether she is 36 or 29, Wilson chimed in on social media:

Meanwhile she is scoring points with a string of TV appearances and the hit film Pitch Perfect: 2.

Wilson took a punt on Hollywood after some disappointments in Australia and has broken through in the US thanks to her talent and self-deprecating humour.

If that’s required a little blurring of the lines then perhaps it’s playing the game the Hollywood way which has seen entire courtcases around whether age should be included in IMDb.

Wilson should really be applauded for proving you don’t have to fit a certain aesthetic to make good.

More humour, less histrionics…

  1. I really could not care one bit- I love Rebel! She is a great actress so funny and great to watch I definitely watch any movies she’s in! She is doing great in the US- Australia should be proud of her achievements.

  2. Ms Wilson was also on Episode 4 of Graham Norton’s Show on Friday 01MAY15, hopefully Ch10 will air it soon, she talks about Perfect Pitch on thet ep. She’s a lot of fun even for a Sydneyite

  3. Fairfax (non Murdoch for the complainers) have run a follow up that ASIC documents prove she’s been lying about her age. And poster mad is correct she brought this on herself.

  4. I understand why actors don’t like to state their age. Hollywood is ageist, especially for women. However, she rather brought this on herself with the “older women” comments.

  5. I don’t have a problem with her lying about her age. Could not care less and everyone here knew she was older anyway. She would have been underage on Fat Pizza if she was telling the truth. The argument Mammamia made was that it’s not okay to make comments about “older female” actors who are actually younger than her. I don’t think you get to comment on other performers age while lying about your own without being called out for it.

    1. If Rebel Wilson wants to claim she is 29 and part of an up and coming generation of young actresses why should the media be forced to accept and repeat that, if she is 36 and Rebel Wilson is a stage name?

Yet another twitter storm in a teacup.
