SANFL big night coming to 7mate

Magarey Medal and the SA Football Hall of Fame to air on 7mate in Adelaide.

The SANFL’s Magarey Medal will return to free-to-air television in September, and for the first time, the SA Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

It is the first time since 2007 South Australian football’s night of nights has been broadcast on television, And the first time since the 1980s the Magarey Medal has been broadcast on the Seven network.

The 2015 Magarey Medal and SA Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be broadcast Live on 7mate in Monday September 7th (Adelaide).

The Magarey Medal Presentation will be combined with the South Australian Football Hall of Fame. The SANFL’s modern-day greats will have the opportunity to rub shoulders with SA’s finest footballers as five champions are inducted into the South Australian Football Hall of Fame.

Almost 700 guests will gather in the Adelaide’s Oval’s Magarey Room to honour the 2015 Magarey Medallist.

Channel Seven General Manager Tony Davison said: “The Magarey Medal is one of Australia’s oldest and most treasured sporting awards and we are thrilled to be able to bring it to the South Australian football public.”

SANFL Chief Executive Jake Parkinson said: ‘’The SANFL is delighted to have this year’s Magarey Medal and SA Football Hall of Fame presentation televised live on Channel Seven.

‘’It will mark the first time the nation’s oldest individual football prize is awarded on the same night five of South Australia’s greats are inducted into the SA Football Hall of Fame.

‘’Seeing the greatest footballers from this state, from generations past and present, in the same room will make for a memorable occasion all South Australians can cherish.’’

The first Magarey Medal was awarded in 1898 and has been presented every season, except for the years of the two world wars. Norwood’s Alby Green was the first recipient and Port Adelaide legend Russell Ebert (4) has won the most Magareys, between 1971 and 1980. Barrie Robran is one of five players to have won three Magarey medals.

Each of the South Australian Football Hall of Fame inductees will be featured in Channel 7’s telecast of the Magarey Medal presentation.
