Gina Rinehart ordered to provide evidence in House of Hancock case

Any affidavit put forward to the court could result Gina Rinehart being cross-examined.

The NSW Supreme Court has ordered Gina Rinehart to provide evidence in her legal case against Channel Nine and Cordell Jigsaw.

Rinehart is locked in a legal dispute following the February miniseries House of Hancock.

On Justice Lucy McCallum ordered Mrs Rinehart to provide affidavit evidence to support her claims that the drama was malicious and false and the two media organisations engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct.

But the Australian Financial Review reports any affidavit could result in her being cross-examined in court -so far she has avoided giving evidence in separate legal disputes brought by her children Bianca Rinehart and John Hancock.

Her barrister Sue Chrysanthou said Mrs Rinehart should not be asked to provide an affidavit, when “Channel Nine is not going to put on affidavits about their malice.”
