SBS PopAsia is one of the most popular brands on SBS 2 and from October 2-4, it turns Asian all Weekend with three days of non-stop Asian pop culture programming.

To celebrate the world’s biggest boy band – Kpop superstars BIGBANG’s upcoming Australian tour, SBS PopAsia hosts Jamaica dela Cruz and Andy Trieu will present a special Australian television premiere of the The BigBang Alive tour. With BIGBANG fans just as passionate as beliebers and directioners SBS 2 is serving up this concert as a special entre to their upcoming world tour with an exclusive screening of their 2012 Alive concert featuring performances of their biggest hits Bad Boy, Blue, and Fantastic Baby.

PopAsia 101– Your guide to Asian Pop presented by PopAsia hosts Jamaica and Andy will kick start Saturday with a definitive guide to all things Asian pop from fashion, the biggest stars, to the Aussie’s making waves in the industry. Jamaica and Andy will take you through the hottest boy and girl groups and the companies that have made Asian Pop what it is today. From Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, TVXQ, BigBang, Jay Chou, Super Junior, AKB48, Girls’ Generation to the Wondergirls – this PopAsia special will give audiences the lowdown on everything Asian pop.

From October 2, SBS On Demand also joins in on the Pop! fun, launching PopAsia On Demand, with hyperactive non-stop Asian TV and movies available to stream for free, including exclusive online episodes of Chinese reality show We Are Young. The program, which was seen by over 100 million people in China when it debuted earlier this year is a reality series about exchange from China and Australia who live and study in each other’s country for 30 days.

POP! Weekend also sees the return of Anime to SBS 2 with the Australian TV premiere of two hit series from Japan, Space Dandy and Assassination Classoom. Space Dandy involves an anarchic, irreverent voyage across the universe in the company of breast-obsessed alien hunter Space Dandy and his not-particularly loyal sidekicks QT, a rundown robot, and Meow, a cat-like space alien. Assasination Classoom is one of the most successful anime series of 2015 and follows the story of amany-tentacled alien who, having already destroyed 70% of the moon, has landed on earth with the promise of annihilating the planet by the end of the school year. A high school class of misfits, losers and delinquents must attempt to assassinate him first. At the conclusion of the series, a live-action adaptation was released in cinemas that shot straight to the top of the Japanese box office.

All weekend SBS 2 will be showcasing an incredible array of Asian film, including:

20 Once Again – A delightful Chinese adaptation of Korean smash hit comedy Miss Granny featuring Chinese heartthrob and pop idol Luhan in his first film role.
Love and Sophie’s Revenge – two star-studded rom-coms from Taiwan and China respectively, featuring a quartet of incredible leading ladies in Shu Qi (from Chinese mega-smash If You Are The One), Vicki Zhao (Red Cliff), Crouching Tiger’s Zhang Ziyi and arguably the most famous woman in China, actress and pop star Fan Bing Bing (last seen in X-Men, Days of Future Past).
The Thieves – a stylish and thrilling Korean heist movie (think Ocean’s Eleven).
Summer Wars and Wolf Children – two beautiful and fantastical anime features from visionary Japanese director Mamoru Hosoda who is often described as “the next Miyazaki”.
20th Century Boys – an epic three-part sci-fi fantasy adventure from Japan, playing out over three consecutive nights all across the weekend.

Pop! Weekend will also feature two new episodes of the world’s biggest dating show If You Are The One, which is currently giving Australian singles the chance to find their soul mate and be a contestant on the program later this year. For more information, visit www.sbs.com.au/iyato
