Ex-Seven News weather presenter Giaan Rooney has landed on her feet after moving from Melbourne to Brisbane with a sports presenting role.

She will appear on the local 4pm Seven bulletin on Thursdays and Fridays from today, sitting alongside Kendall Gilding.

“This is the best role I could have hoped for, sport is my passion and always will be … and it’s great to be doing it back in Queensland,” she told News Corp.

Rooney first joined Seven following her years with Nine, but the transition was tricky, particularly being expected to replace David Brown.

“My credibility is in sport, not weather. So it was really tough. Most nights I would go home and cry,” she once said.

The new role sounds like a more sensible fit.

“There is so much buzz happening around sport at the moment,” she said.

“It is always interesting starting on grand final week. It’s not a soft start.”

  1. I didn’t even realise she resigned. Not a knock on her though, as I much preferred her to Jane Bunn/Jo Silvagni doing the weather. However, reading the above, it didn’t appear she was all that happy with it.
