Psychic show returns after “bullying” campaign

Branded entertainment show about psychics never saw this one coming.

In news nobody saw coming, branded entertainment show Psychic TV was recently forced off air after its psychic presenters were threatened and intimidated.

Psychic TV, which appears on datacasting channel TV4ME four nights a week via Seven, disappeared in early December following a social media hate campaign.

Fairfax reports the show’s Facebook page posted on December 9th advising, “Please remember that Psychic TV will not tolerate bullying of any type either directed to the cast and crew of the show or your fellow viewers”.

Last Friday David Borean, managing director of Brand New Media Interactive said: “Nobody should be subjected to harassment when they perform their work. We respect the talents and professionalism of our presenters … unfortunately, we can’t control the actions and behaviours of a small minority when it comes to social posting.”

Whilst the Facebook page has over 24,000 “likes” some have questioned the $5.45 per minute charges and credit card fees associated with psychic readings.

Psychic TV returned to TV4ME earlier this month.

  1. I honestly didn’t know TV4ME showed anything which wasn’t purely pre-recorded infomercials.

I wish channels like it and EXTRA would go away, it seems like an awful waste of bandwidth.

  2. “Call and Win” on TV4ME is another show that should be taken off the air.
Biggest scam on TV and its on every night of the week.
All you need to do is watch it once and you will see how much of a scam it is.

  3. I’ve caught this ‘show’ a few times in passing and am constantly spellbound by the delusional callers, the fakeness of the ‘cast’ and the extortionate pricing to be subjected to the travesty. I don’t condone bullying whatsoever – that’s a seperate and serious issue – but as long as there are suckers willing to feed these, this will remain on air.

    1. “…am constantly spellbound…”
That was them using their magic, sorry, psychic powers on you.

The bullying is wrong but any outrage is appropriate. This is a show that was preying on gullible people and I’m glad that it is off the air.

      1. Completely agree. I’m sure there’s an ACA or TT story involving poor grannies or grief stricken parents who’ve spent thousands on their counsel. Well, maybe ACA coz TV4Me is owned by 7 so TT wouldn’t run it.

  4. How does TV4ME retain its licence? The channel is not permitted to broadcast Category A content (ie regular television programs). As per licence conditions they can only broadcast purely ‘information’ programs not entertainment.

    1. Because “the sole or dominant purpose .. is to … provide factual information, or directly-related comment, about any of a wide range of matters, including but not limited to … products [&/or] services”, and “a key feature of an ‘information-only’ program is that there must be little or no emphasis on dramatic impact or entertainment value … [as distinguished from] …such genres as ‘infotainment’, where there is heavy emphasis on entertainment.”

Yes, I agree it’s a rubbish distinction, I’ve asked ministers (from both sides) and ACMA a couple of times, and those definitions from the Act & explanatory docs are the clearest explanations I’ve ever received. But you have to admit Psychic TV meets that definition – no entertainment value, just information on a product or service.

(Which also explains how Benny Hinn etc fit in…)

  5. If only you’d coughed up $5.45/min David you could’ve had a scoop!

(The alternative explanation is that they were always going to have break over Christmas/NY, but couldn’t fill it with the usual “best of …” series because there wasn’t any…)

  6. If they’re psychic, why don’t they use their psychic powers to identify the bullies and publicly shame them?

Or maybe they could use their psychic powers to get inside the heads of the bullies and force them to stop. Or make their heads explode or something.

That’s what I’d do if I had psychic powers. Oh, and win the lottery every week so I didn’t have to work at a crappy datacasting channel on minimum wage.
