TV Tonight turns 9!

Blow out the candles and cut the cake, it's time to celebrate another year of passion for the small screen.

2016-01-03_1357a

Happy birthday to us all… today marks 9 years since the launch of TV Tonight!

Still regarded as the ‘go-to’ site by industry and public alike, the site has notched up another year of bumper traffic, interviews and exclusives.

Over the last twelve months the site was viewed around 17 million times! But let’s not play with numbers like a ratings press release, the industry standard is Unique Visitors per month and the site is averaging 390,000 a month.

Last year TVT featured its 40,000th post (it’s already on the way to 42,000), a logo & site refresh, new Streaming and Video categories, a “nostalgia” week, first set visit to Adelaide, campaigned for more women in the Logie Hall of Fame, threw a sinkhole under Nine, and broke numerous major stories & exclusives including AGT judges, Home & Away induction, X Factor editing out finalists, Kebab Kings consent, first photos of new Wentworth set, ITV production upheavals and pushes from the Greens and FreeTV Australia for primary channels to switch to HD (hey, we won!).

But the site is also distinctive thanks to the people who speak to it and those who read it. My thanks for your ongoing loyalty and shared passion for the small screen.

Over the last 12 months interviews have included Aussie icons, international stars and creatives, industry execs and puppets alike:

  1. Congratulations! I’ve been a reader since close to the start. And like others have commented, it’s one of only a few sites I look at every day.

  2. Happy 9th Birthday TV Tonight. Yes like many others its the first visit I make each morning,
Exceptional work David.. Best TV Blog ever!!!

Not too many drinks David. We need you on the job 🙂

  3. Congratulations, David! What you didn’t mention was the fact that this is a one-man show, which makes your achievements even more incredible! I’ve been a fan since I first stumbled across your site during a search for ratings info (I’m going to say it was 2007, but if you weren’t presenting ratings data back then, it wouldn’t have been much later than that). You do a brilliant job and you’ve handled some “interesting” commentators over the years! Keep up the outstanding work!!

  4. Yay, HBD TVT! Another year. Thanks for all your efforts in running this site, David. It really is the best TV blog in this region of the Solar System.

  5. Happy Birthday/ Anniversary and Congratulations David. TVTonight is my first, and pretty much last, port of call for all the TV news. Marvellous!!! Looking forward tot he tenth year!!.

  6. Can’t believe it’s 9 years already! Congratulations David and happy birthday TV Tonight! A massive fan from the very beginning.. love your work 🙂

  7. I echo the sentiment by most of the people here, Congratulations David on achieving Nine Years. The first site that I go to every morning before breakfast usually.

  8. Happy Birthday David. Your site is amazing and this site is one of my favourites. Your work makes our lives better by finding the gems and avoiding the turkeys. Worth three times what we pay! 😉

  9. Congratulations David on 9 fabulous years. I have been a follower for many of those…I’ve lost track…without you I’d be lost when it comes to TV news.

I don’t know how you find time to write given the amount of interviews you did. You’re one busy person! Here’s to 2016.

Ps. Thanks to you we’ve recently started watching Bloodline – now I’m increasing my reading by following your steaming section – as I’m a new Netflix subscriber.

  10. Happy birthday to TV Tonight! I’ve been here almost daily since 2008 back when it was orange themed on WordPress. This site goes from strength to strength. Really enjoy the community here and daily posts. Thanks to David Knox in particular for such an awesome site and continued passion over the years

  11. Congratulations David ! Thank you for the best TV site on the net, my first stop each and every morning. If there are any questions I want answered with regard to TV this is where I come. May there be many more ‘birthdays’ for TV Tonight.
