Is the truth out there for more X-Files?

“We said before it aired that we would love to do more," says FOX exec.

The X-Files-Season 1-Episode3-0

The “season final” episode of The X-Files is about to roll in the US and reportedly ends with a cliffhanger.

So where does that leave the show’s future?

“We said before it aired that we would love to do more, and we are over the moon with the performance. So far, the response has been really encouraging,” FOX entertainment president David Madden told Variety.

“We haven’t talked to the talent yet about Season 2 in any more definitive way than we had prior to airing the show, but certainly, it seems like there’s an audience responding to the show that would love to see more episodes.”

Fox bosses Dana Walden and Gary Newman have previously noted, “The biggest impediment to going forward with The X-Files is the schedule of David and Gillian and, to an extent, Chris…but even the other night at the premiere, we were all laughing and joking that we would love to do this again. So we would be on board if schedules can be worked out.”

The penultimate episode airs 8:30pm Sunday including with Australian actor Artin John.

  1. As if they won’t. What on earth will any of them be doing that is more important work wise?
I don’t for a second believe they haven’t already figured out exactly when they are making more and how many more. Hell I totally think we have a chance of more new episodes by the end of the year. In fact I would bet on it. I think it’ll be announced right after the last episode airs. X-Files will return September with 10 more new episodes.

    1. Anderson is contracted to the BBC for The Fall, and does other film and TV work e.g. War & Peace. Duchovny is contracted to NBC for Aquarius, and does other films and TV work.

      1. @ Pertinax There is only going to be one more series of the fall, which is either being filmed at moment or has been filmed. Other than that, is GA contracted to other series? If not, then there is every chance both she and DD could do some more XF, even if it is only another 1/2 episodes, I doubt they would want to go back to a full season/22 episode show.

  2. I think the odds are good for another mini season of the X Files even though this revival season lacked something, certainly Duchovny and Anderson thought it was a bit of a laugh all the way to the bank.

    1. It was done as a short run with writer/directors instead of a full production team for a show in full swing.

So it lacked Kim Manners overseeing skilled directors and directing the key episodes. Production experience of Howard Gordon and Alex Ganza and people who had progressed from script editors, to writers, to producers, eps and show runners like Gilligan and Shiban. There was an awful lot of talent working with Carter to make the show great.
