Actor Peter Donat, best known for The X-Files, has died aged 90.
He died at his home in California last Monday following complications with diabetes.
The Canadian-born actor had a recurring role as Agent Fox Mulder’s father on the sci-fi series.
On social media David Duchovny said, “Peter had an easy gravitas as a performer and seemed to come from that generation that took the art seriously but not too seriously. It was an honour to know him and work with him.”
He also guest starred on TV series like The FBI, Hawaii Five-O, Mannix, McMillan & Wife, Hill Street Blues and Murder She Wrote.
Donat acted in two Francis Ford Coppola films, as a lawyer in The Godfather Part II and played Otto Kerner in Coppola’s Tucker: The Man and His Dream.
He was drawn to acting by the career of his uncle, Goodbye, Mr. Chips‘ Robert Donat.
