Mad as Hell‘s Stephen Hall will play Basil Fawlty in the stage version of Fawlty Towers, opening in Sydney in August.

Hall, who has the backing of John Cleese himself, has previously played Monty Python roles in Spamalot.

The role of Sybil goes to actress Blazey Best with other cast members yet to be confirmed.

No pressure, the show’s Australian premiere will also be its world premiere, on August 19 at Sydney’s Roslyn Packer Theatre. Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane, and New Zealand will follow.

It will be adapated for the stage by John Cleese with direction by Caroline J Ranger and set design by Liz Ascroft.

  1. i’m a bit of a fan but i recognize when something has been done to death. Well i suppose as long as they sell tickets we won’t be seeing anything new comedy wise from Cleese or any of the Python team., though i do recognize time is not on their side.
