Castle star out for Season 9
Stana Katic, who plays Detective Kate Beckett, won't be back for a ninth season of US mystery.

Castle will be without Stana Katic, who plays Detective Kate Beckett, in a planned ninth season due to a reduced budget.
Male lead Nathon Fillion has been in negotiations to return in what is tipped to be a shorter 13-episode run.
Deadline notes: “I hear the decision for Katic not to return was made by ABC and ABC Studios. Both Fillion and Katic last spring inked one-year contracts, which are up at the end of the current eighth season. While the studio started making overtures to Fillion for a new deal months ago and has been in on- and off- talks with him since the beginning of the year, I hear Katic was never approached to re-up her contract and was not offered an opportunity to continue on the show.”
Stana Katic said, “Rather then distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I’m very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a much beloved show. Thank you to the fans.”
“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship,” ABC Studios said in a statement.
Also exiting is original cast member Tamala Jones who played medical examiner Lanie Parish.
“I’ve had so much fun playing the wonderful and unfiltered Lanie over the past eight seasons,” Jones said.
“I will greatly miss the cast and crew – it’s been a privilege getting to work with this incredibly hard working group of people. Thank you to ABC for this opportunity and to the fans for their unwavering support. It’s been an incredible journey and I can’t wait for what lies ahead!”

Penny Johnson Jerald who played Gates was axed in season 7. And its all women too. Too much of a coincidence. Will be boycotting season 8 and 9. Goodbye Stana and Tamala.

I like Fillion but I stopped watching a long time ago. Don’t see how it could go on without Beckett. That’d be like The X-Files without Mulder. Oh, wait…
Won’t be watching. The dynamic between the two is the reason i watched in the first place. Also channel 7 puts it back on, then off again,changes nights. ..etc. i give up!
Without Kate Castle will not be the same, this is not good news.
Time to wrap it up. It can’t go on without her.
This is the stupidest decision ever. The reason why Castle is one of my all time favorite shows is because of Castle and Beckett’s relationship and them solving crimes together and without Castle and Beckett working together this season hasn’t really felt like the Castle I love. I’ll watch a season 9 but I hope it’s the final season and Beckett will return for the finale. I’m also really upset Lanie is leaving hopefully Perlmutter replaces her and is in a couple of episodes.
