No Spoilers.
It had intrigue, romance, drama, suspense, weddings, deaths and dazzling costumes -but tomorrow night viewers will say goodbye to Downton Abbey for the very last time.
Julian Fellowes created a new Upstairs Downstairs that drew bumper ratings for most of its 6 seasons. Praised by audiences and (mostly) critics alike, the ensemble cast drew repeated award nominations -notably in the US.
Its mix of melodrama and class distinction at the turn of the century was escapism and indulgence all at the same time, artfully crafted into TV cliffhangers.
With its global popularity, Downtown has ignited an entire tourism boom drawn to its historic UK locations.
It ends with a 2 hr finale 9pm Monday on Seven.
Here are some of the faces we’ll remember.

That was the penultimate episode. Did you see the Christmas special?
Sorry this was for GRM below.
I’m waiting for the final season on Netfix or DVD – tried to watch it on Seven but the ad breaks ruined the flow.
Quite so. We obtained the final series from friends in the UK, where it has already been shown. I realise commercial stations must have commercials (Heck, I worked in commercial radio for 50 years), but ads really do intrude in dramas like Downton.
We are fans GRM, sadly we do have the final season GRM but because of the disfunctional programming of Aus commercial tv we schedule our own viewing, taking all Aus networks out of the equation, and that scheduling is a way off yet.
I will miss you Downton, even though the seasons have become a little sillier with each one. At one stage, Julian F was teasing with suggestions of a movie down the track…
And most of the cast teasing the movie suggest ever since they announced this would be the final series.
Juluian Fellows did a 3 part docco on old “castles” a while back, Downton was one of them. As for the final episodes we got the DVD months ago, oh dear we forgot to tell AusTAM (AusTAM phhhhhht!)
Yes, already seen series 6. Final episode is a ripper. Huge catfight Mary vs Edith when Mary blurts out the truth about Marigold. A must see if you’re a fan.
