HBO’s next big drama series, The Night Of will premiere on Showcase in July.
The 8 part limited series delves into the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. The story examines the police investigation, the legal proceedings, the criminal justice system and the feral purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused await trial for felony crimes.
Filmed in and around Manhattan, the HBO series is based on the BBC’s Criminal Justice created by Peter Moffat.
It stars John Turturro and Riz Ahmed and is directed by Steven Zaillian and James Marsh, adapted by teleplays by Richard Price and Zaillian,
The first episode will run for 90 minutes, with subsequent episodes at 60 minutes each and debuts 6 days after the US premiere.
8:30pm Sunday July 17 on Showcase.

Saw the ad for this the other day on Foxtelly and was suitably intrigued. Turturro can be spellbinding if the role suits.
Foxtel’s channels (especially BBC First) have been excellent on Sunday’s at 8:30pm so far this year.
