Shortland Street reaches 6000 episodes

It began in 1992 and today Shortland Street is New Zealand's longest-running drama.

Long-running New Zealand soapie Shortland Street has just chalked up its 6000th episode.

The hospital drama began in 1992 with 230 episodes at a cost of $10 million. Since then it has continued for 24 years as the country’s longest-running drama.

Stars who have gone on to big things include Martin Henderson, Temuera Morrison, Anna Hutchison, Robbie Magasiva, Karl Urban.

At 6000 episodes it still trails Neighbours (7579) and Home and Away (6440), but a milestone nonetheless.

Shortland Street airs in Australia on Arena.
