Next week SBS premieres a new French drama series, aptly called Paris, written and directed by Spiral creators Virginie Brac and Gilles Bannier.

The 6 part series is described as a real-time map of the French capital city, explored through twelve loosely-connected characters, all of whom cross paths in the City of Lights.

It premieres with a double episode.

During a 24-hour period, a dozen seemingly random residents – government officials, middle-class workers, a thief, and a transgender singer – dodge, dart and finally intertwine, each reaching a crucial turning point in their lives.

Featuring Cesar-winning actor Eric Caravaca, Swiss model Julie Ordon, and French rapper Kool Shen, these stories are pieced together from the bottom to the top of the Parisian social ladder; and a romantic and dramatic saga tracing Paris’ heartbeat unfolds.

Episode One:
At five-am in Pigalle, Alexia’s singing for her friend Angel, a thug in debt to the dangerous Sacha. On his way to Matignon, Prime Minister Michel Ardent is threatened with corruption, but is also dealing with his son Clement, who runs away to find his birth mother. As for Leila, a cleaner for Noemie Lanvin, she’s expecting a child and struggling to make ends meet.

11.00pm Monday, 25 July on SBS
(Episode 2 at 11.55pm)

  1. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve seen of Spiral so will check this out but, again, a double-ep starting at 11pm? A double helping to build audience loyalty but a late start because hardly anybody will watch it? That’s a confused strategy if ever I saw one.
