Nine’s upcoming season of The Block will feature its first female gay couple when it begins, likely after the Olympics.
Melbourne couple Julia, 31, and Sasha, 42, have been partners for four years, and mark the first same-sex couple on the series since 2004.
They join the show’s oldest ever couple Dan, 55 and Carleen, 52, from Perth.
Also featuring are:
Andy (25) and Ben (24), best mates, from Geelong
Kim (32) and Chris (34), married four years, from Newcastle
Dan (55) and Carleen (52), married 30 years, from Perth
Shooting is currently underway at a vast art deco building constructed in the 1920s in Port Melbourne.
The huge site will deliver the biggest apartments ever seen on the Nine series.
Host Scott Cam says: “This series has gotten off to a cracking start – one of our best yet. It is going to give Aussie viewers great pleasure watching these Blockheads restore this building to its former glory.
“It’s a magnificent building rich in history, and will hopefully make a few more couples rich too.”
Scott Cam will again be joined by co-host Shelley Craft, judges Neale Whitaker, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer, foreman Keith Schleiger and Dan Reilly.

The Block looks good. Will be watching.
Why is it that every reality show according to each channel is the best ever or one of the best ever, yet the ratings very seldom agree.
I don’t remember the plebiscite for that
the shorts for Hyde and Seek look fantastic
the promo looks good. i like it.
can’t wait to see it
Yawn to all Reno shows. Survivor will be the winner. Shorts look good so far…
Gay couples on reality shows. Is that still considered headline news?
Normally I’d agree, but as The Block hasn’t managed to do that for 12 years (!!), it’s worthy of mention
It’s a blog post. Remember that last week people were asking for more diversity in Reality.
Really looking forward to the Block, think we’ve had a sufficient break to give it back some freshness, can’t wait
