Earlier this week iview unveiled The Word: Rise of the Slam Poets, a six-part short form documentary series profiling six slam poets from across the country.

The series demonstrates the power of words and the importance of poetry in the modern age through the eyes of an inspiring group of multicultural poets.

It fuses art, poetry and factual entertainment. Each artist’s story is complimented by an original short film interpreting one of their standout poems, blurring the lines between documentary, art and poetry.

Financed by Screen Australia, The Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Screen Territory, the series was filmed across Australia in February and March, 2016. Co-Directors Darius Devas and Timothy Parish wrote, filmed and directed the series, travelling from Melbourne’s inner city alleyways and the remote community of Maningrida, Arnhem Land to Byron Bay and Queanbeyan. The series was produced by Adam Farrington-Williams and the Executive Producer was Mandy Chang.
