New US drama Queen of the South, an adaptation of a Mexican telenovela, has been renewed for a second season.
The series set in the world of Mexican drug cartels premiered in Australia on Showcase last month. It stars Alice Braga as a woman who inadvertently becomes drawn into the world of high-stakes drug trafficking when her drug-dealer boyfriend is murdered.
Variety reports in the US the show opened to 1.39m viewers for USA Network, with the most recent episode attracting 1.2m viewers.
Natalie Chaidez (12 Monkeys, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Heroes) has also signed on for the second season as executive producer and showrunner.
