Report: Foxtel job losses over 100 staff

Unconfirmed reports today suggest that more than 100 people were recently made redundant at Foxtel.

Unconfirmed reports today suggest that more than 100 people were recently made redundant at Foxtel.

While the Pay TV provider acknowledged recent job losses, there were no numbers put on staff cuts.

The Australian Financial Review suggests more than 100 have gone from have gone from the strategy team, the IT department, the brand team and from the ranks of the network’s promo producers.

But a Foxtel spokesperson was unable to comment on the number of job losses.

Meanwhile sources have told TV Tonight, this was a third wave of job losses, with as many as 1 in 5 desks now empty on some floors.

I suspect that Foxtel is showing a few more cracks in it’s bottom line with streaming becoming more popular and Optus also getting into sports ccoverage which has always been a primary attraction for Foxtel subscribers. With the UK gradually making HD standard for their customers and with 4K streaming gaining momentum Foxtel have got to lift their game a lot better than they are at the moment, programming is looking a bit like faded paint on a once gaudy building, Foxtel will have to re-imagine or restructure itself eventually probably after Optus has given it’s version the flick,an event that is not likely to provide Foxtel any new friends.
