Secret Service investigating “broken” Kathy Griffin

Tearful comedian says President Trump is now trying to destroy her career.

US comedian Kathy Griffin has been contacted by the Secret Service but attorney, Lisa Bloom, suggested that it was an attempt to silence the free speech rights of a comic who makes provocative and critical political humour.

“I have had everyone turn on me, but I just want to make people laugh,” Griffin said.

Kathy Griffin said that President Trump and his family are “personally trying to ruin my life forever,” in the wake of a controversial photo shoot in which she held up a mask that resembled Trump’s severed head. She has been subjected to a constant stream of death threats.

“What’s happening to me has never happened in this great country,” a teary Griffin said in between assorted gags.

“I don’t think I will have a career after this,” she said. “I am going to be honest, he broke me. He broke me. And then I felt, ‘This isn’t right. This is not right. And I apologised because that was the right thing to do and I meant it.”

But she also had not heard from Anderson Cooper since being dropped by CNN.

“I am not afraid of Donald Trump. He’s a bully,” she said. She said that “it was quite clear to me” that Trump and his family “are trying to use me as a distraction.”

  1. The problem is that Hollywood just cannot accept that Trump is president. They are hell bent on destroying him and holding up a severed head in this climate is not acceptable. I like it when comedians go to the edge but when you go over it your the one that falls off the cliff.

  2. She did it to herself, now she’s saying Trump is bulling her, well she was doing it to him, and so are many liberals …..just because you don’t like someone doesn’t mean you should turn into a shitty person. You made your bed sleep in it.

  3. We have always given comedians and cartoonist special license that we don’t give to other people. So in one sense we expect them to push boundaries, but they shouldn’t be too shocked when some people push back.

I was walking through a Paris Cemetery and came across the grave of one of the Charlie Hebdo cartoonist. So someone did take exception and this person paid a high price. When I look back at the offending cartoon, then I thought that that was just too provocative, you didn’t need to go that far to make your point.

A cold dispassionate look at Griffin sketch would not have see me raise my eyebrows too much. She is an out there comedian, but then again in the current context of hyper political / security environment, she should not be too surprised of the response.

She would not be the first, nor last, court jester to loose her head over a poor choice of a joke.

  4. I’m all for sincerely apologizing if someone makes a mistake, which this obviously was. There’s no reason in my opinion to try to ruin this woman’s career, other then just being spiteful. Trump has done (f.i. grabbing women’s private parts, make fun of a handicapped journalist) and said (f.i. I can shoot someone on 5th Avenue and I wouldn’t lose any votes, all Mexicans are rapists or murderers) way worse, so he has no right in my opinion to judge Ms. Griffin at all. And Melania insinuating Ms. Griffin might be mentally, should have a look at her own husband in my opinion.

  5. One of the moat biting comedians around and oops now she is playing the victim; hopefully it’s not the “female”angle again re Trump cause this time he can’t be blamed for this only totally her own doing

  6. If a comedy career could be ended by a single anti-Trump skit there’d be no late night TV shows in the US. To get attention, comedians do push the boundaries and the severed head was over the top and just plain stupid. Kathy should take her medicine, take a break and come back fighting, and wiser.

  7. So the guy who said “I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters” can be outraged about a comedian doing something also shocking?

  8. She went too far and is now regretting it, I’m all for free speech but really shes crying because the Secret Service is now investigating her actions. Surely when they were making this someone could have said ‘Are we going too far?’. I don’t like Trump like a lot of sane people in the world but Kathy needs to suck it up and take her punishment!

    1. She is 100% right that Trump is using her as a distraction. I mean really, getting the secret service to investigate her? As if she actually meant to harm him. There are bigger issues than this non-event.
