On Sunday SBS VICELAND screens the documentary Young and Gay in Putin’s Russia, but take note this is a few years old now.

Milene Larsson travels to Russia ahead of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics to investigate the effects of the country’s state-sanctioned homophobia.

Created in 2013, the law has made it illegal to tell minors that homosexuality is normal, effectively banning all public displays of homosexuality.

Milene speaks to LGBT Russians about the rise in violence following the introduction of the new law, which has received strong global scrutiny.
