New UK reality format Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds has been sold to an undisclosed company in Australia.

The show sees a group of elderly retirement home residents brought together with a group of pre-schoolers, to test if this inter-generational act can improve the health and wellbeing of the older people.

It premiered in August on Channel 4 in the UK to positive press and ratings, winning the night for the channel and boosting the primetime share by over 54%.

The format has been picked up by four other territories including Banijay in France and Spain; BlazHoffski in the Netherlands; and Sweden, with more to be announced shortly.

The Mirror reports social media feedback declared, “Can’t stop crying at Old People’s Home for 4 year olds,” one admitted.

“Crying my eyes out at Hamish on old people’s homes for 4 year olds!” said another.

And a third posted: “Someone tell me why I am SOBBING at that old people’s home for 4 year olds.”

Henrik Pabst, Managing Director of Red Arrow International, said: “This is one of the most innovative, emotional and life-affirming new formats I have seen, and it genuinely has the potential to change people’s lives. When CPL Productions pitched the format to us, we knew immediately that it would generate interest from our international partners, and I am delighted that the show has been picked up so widely just as we start to take it out following its premiere.”
