US procedural drama Major Crimes will end after its upcoming sixth season.
The series premiered in 2012 as a spinoff of The Closer with Mary McDonnell fronting a special squad within the LAPD that deals with high-profile or particularly sensitive crimes.
Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT said, “Major Crimes has successfully navigated the many challenges that arise with a spin-off; the primary mission of which is staying true to its core DNA while expanding into unique territory all its own.
“From Brenda Leigh Johnson to Commander Sharon Raydor, the cast and crew have done a phenomenal job of creating enduring characters – many of whom are celebrating 200 episodes together this season.”
Season six premieres in the US at the end of the month.
Major Crimes airs in Australia on the Nine network.

Season 6 finally returns to 9Gem on 30 September, 9.00pm:
Major Crimes is finally returning to GEM soon, TV promos were noticed last night during Ninja Warrior reruns.
Hi David, any news on when the final season will air on 9Gem?
Such a shame. I’ve been watching this show since The Closer & continued on with the spin off. It’s a great show & mixes humour with the drama. I kind of thought it was on the cards when Rizzoli & Isles got axed last year.
Bugger. I really enjoy this show, will be missed.
Sad to see Major Crimes is ending. One of my favourite shows (I won’t miss Rusty though) !!
It seems Provenza will finally retire.
love this show
