Axed: Major Crimes to end with season six

US procedural will close down its unit with the upcoming 6th season.

US procedural drama Major Crimes will end after its upcoming sixth season.

The series premiered in 2012 as a spinoff of The Closer with Mary McDonnell fronting a special squad within the LAPD that deals with high-profile or particularly sensitive crimes.

Sarah Aubrey, executive vice president of original programming for TNT said, “Major Crimes has successfully navigated the many challenges that arise with a spin-off; the primary mission of which is staying true to its core DNA while expanding into unique territory all its own.

“From Brenda Leigh Johnson to Commander Sharon Raydor, the cast and crew have done a phenomenal job of creating enduring characters – many of whom are celebrating 200 episodes together this season.”

Season six premieres in the US at the end of the month.

Major Crimes airs in Australia on the Nine network.

  1. Such a shame. I’ve been watching this show since The Closer & continued on with the spin off. It’s a great show & mixes humour with the drama. I kind of thought it was on the cards when Rizzoli & Isles got axed last year.
