Secrets of the Pyramids fuses dramatic new archaeological discoveries, large-scale engineering experiments and CGI animation to reveal new secrets about the greatest mysteries of the Egyptian Pyramids; revealing the truth behind the mystery of who built them and how they did it.

Episode One: Exactly how Egypt’s Great Pyramid was built has mystified archaeologists for centuries. Now a series of incredible new discoveries is finally helping to unlock the deepest secrets of this super-sized monument. It was built as a tomb for a mighty pharaoh called Khufu to transport him to the afterlife. Egyptologists unearth the ancient journal of a pyramid builder, lost under the sand for more than 4,500 years. Egyptologist Salima Ikram investigates how the pharaoh believed he had divine powers that controlled the Nile, and how these were used to persuade workers to dedicate their lives to building his giant tomb. Using stunning CGI the inner workings of the Great Pyramid are exposed – and the extent to which the ancient Egyptians utterly transformed the landscape is revealed in unprecedented detail.

  1. The topic of how and who built the things has been much covered by many mostly SBS screened docos over the last 10 or so years. and news out today about a newly discovered void space in the Great Pyramid has rendered this doco outdated already!
