Always Will Be on NITV

In a network first, SBS will hand over its daytime schedule to NITV on January 26 to connect with First Australians perspectives.

On Friday, 26 January NITV will be broadcasting a range of programming under the theme of Always Will Be.

Programming will explore “truth telling, how history defines our nation’s identity, our future direction and what is means to be an Australian today.”

In a network first, SBS will hand over its daytime schedule to NITV to allow more Australians to engage and connect with First Australians perspectives.

The ‘daytime’ simulcast will include further coverage across online, radio and social platforms across SBS ensuring the network reflects the complete diversity and discussion around the national date.

In the lead up to January 26 there will also be themed programming.

On January 26 2018, NITV will be broadcasting coverage that acknowledges the diversity of opinions from around the nation.

NITV’s Always Will Be broadcasting will kick off in North Head in Manly at 6.30am with a Sunrise Ceremony, and will invite Australians to tune in and experience unique Indigenous perspectives, cultural performances and entertainment.

The ceremony will present amazing musical performances by Baker Boy, Stiff Gins, Yirrmal and Christine Anu, all sung in language.

Throughout the day there will be live news coverage and updates from across Australia, including a special one hour NITV News program from the official Australia Day activities at Barangaroo following the Sunrise Ceremony. Complementary programming will continue throughout the day, which will include NITV’s commissioned documentaries Songlines on Screen and Zach’s Ceremony, and NITV’s Pop Up Anthem Sessions.

Begins 6:30am Friday January 26 on NITV.

  1. Glad SBS plan to do this, it’s something I’ve always suggested – no matter what the date, we should start the day with reflection and respect for the First Peoples; as the day progresses formality makes way to celebration.
Surprised this isn’t being talked about more in the media
