SKY News will stage a Tasmanian People’s Forum on Wednesday February 28 with Premier Will Hodgman and Opposition Leader Rebecca White, in conjunction with The Mercury, ahead of the state election.
Political Editor David Speers will moderate the one-hour Live at the Hobart Town Hall, where the leaders will take questions from undecided voters chosen by Galaxy polling.
“We’re looking forward to bringing a national spotlight to this fascinating campaign in Tasmania. These forums always throw up some surprises and a great way to see what’s really on the minds of voters and how the two leaders go without a prepared script,” said Speers.
Chris Jones, The Mercury Editor said: “We’ve heard a lot from the politicians during this campaign about what they think is important, but the People’s Forum is a great opportunity for us – and them – to hear what the voters care about. I’m excited The Mercury can host this important event with Sky News in the critical last week of campaigning. It’s another sign of our commitment to leading the public debate in Tasmania on behalf of our readers.”
Prior to the People’s Forum David will anchor his award-winning political program Speers Live from the venue at 4:00pm AEDT, joined by The Mercury Editor Chris Jones and State Political Editor David Beniuk.
Following the forum at 9:00pm AEDT, David will dissect the results with Paul Murray on Paul Murray Live and examine the leaders’ responses to the issues and concerns raised by the people of Tasmania.
Sky News will also feature multi-platform coverage on www.skynews.com.au, @SkyNewsAust, and www.facebook.com/skynewsaustralia. International viewers can watch the forum at www.australiachannel.com.au.
Then on Saturday March 3 as Tasmanians head to the polls, Sky News will have unrivalled coverage and analysis Live from 6:00pm AEDT.
David Speers will anchor election night coverage Live from the Sky News Canberra centre crossing Live to guest panellists including Liberal Senator Richard Colbeck and Labor Senator Lisa Singh who will be with the respective leader’s on the night.
