Seven refuses to confirm pair cut from MKR

Network marketing campaign shifts from "Which team is removed?" to "Will they return?"

After “excusing” Sonya & Hadil from the My Kitchen Rules dinner table last night, Seven is now teasing “Will Sonya & Hadil return?”

The incident, which escalated to on-screen bullying, saw insults fly across the table between the NSW friends and NSW sisters Jess & Emma. It was a war of words unleashed between rival teams at the Vietnamese instant restaurant of Kim & Suong.

There were very few wide shots of the table as arguments flared (suggesting that perhaps Pete & Manu were not on set for the bulk of the exchanges), before Sonya & Hadil turned on other teams.

“Don’t make me come for you!” Hadil directed at others at the table.

“I’ll come for all of you, because you’re all disrespectful a***holes!” Sonya shouted.

Eventually Manu Feildel spoke up, with a first-ever ultimatum for the show.

“Enough! Things have got too out of hand, this is a cooking competition, and this behaviour is unacceptable. Sonya and Hadil, you are excused from the table!” he said.

After Sonya & Hadil left in a taxi (and left in a huff), the cooking competition continued for hosts Kim & Suong. Judges added an average from the remaining 6 teams to scores, to ensure the hosts were not disadvantaged.

If it becomes evident the two friends have not been eliminated from the show after all then it may backfire, given the months of endless promotions about a team being kicked off the show. Yesterday Seven refused to confirm or deny a permanent exit only acknowledging they are the “thrown out” team.

Nevertheless the seemingly endless promo campaign has delivered for Seven, with its biggest week so far this season and doing the thing it most needed to do: kill The Voice.

  1. Going by the promos I’ve seen to date, (I don’t watch the show, so I probably shouldn’t be commenting on this) but it has only been said “you are excused from the table” – not – “you are excused for the competition” so perhaps this couple do return?

  2. What a setup this turning out to be! I mean the words “You are excused” tells you that they will be back had he said “You are leaving the show” at least it will be truthful and you wonder why fta is in strife

  3. It just occurred to me why they introduced the clock. Of course the had to limit that silly cooking stuff so they could fit in more fights. Rumor has it that ‘sevens cricket ‘will only be 3 balls an over, so they can fit in all the adds.

  4. Will this be another “your’e off the block” moment when they do come back? Out of curiosity I did watch it last night and the unprovoked tirade of abuse was disgusting. I guess the promos worked on me.

  5. Sonia & Adil have to go or Seven will feel the pain of viewer backlash. Guaranteed imho.

I felt sorry for Jess & Emma and especially the two lovely gentle Vietnamese ladies Kim and Suong. They would have been well aware of the fighting and arguments going on next door 🙁

Also the relief after the Taxi left with the two nasties was evident as laughter returned around the table. I enjoyed that part.

Now it is up to Seven to make good this viewer manipulation and terrible diversion from what makes this show viewable and often enjoyable.

  6. They are finally gone. Please Please Please don’t let them back. They are way too nasty. A cooking show should be fun and the judges should be the only ones voting to stop the bullshit votes. (or is that what 7 wants ) a bit of bitching is ok but If they come back, we definitely won’t be.

  7. Sonya and Hadley deserved to be excused as their behaviour was disgusting. I hope they don’t return. I question how much of this was staged by the producers. They seemed to be very selective in what they showed so would be interesting to find out what actually happened during filming. It crossed a line for the reputation of the show. I personally hope they suffer severely from it from reduced ratings which they are already seeing this year. This probably won’t happen.

    1. Regardless of how creative the editing was (and I have no doubt that it was), that in no way excuses what Sonya & Hadil actually said. As for them returning, I assume the rest of the season has already been shot, so Seven already know. I’d be mighty annoyed if they did return.

  8. I have t watched all this drama… but if it is as you say..” on screen bullying”. Then that’s very disappointing given the current climate, of the bullying on social media. I would have thought 7 may have toned it down a little… drama/bully??
