Gallery: A peek at Nine’s new Sydney home

Tough day at the office when Nine's new home opens for business in 2020....

Nine’s future home in North Sydney is under construction as part of the 1 Denison tower, due for completion in 2020.

The developer Winten Property Group, has launched a new website with a time-lapse video of construction to date, 360-degree visualisations and a two-minute video showing what it will be like to work inside the new building (office views are to die for but will only be for other tenants).

Nine will be taking at least eight floors in the 37-storey building, including an outdoor terrace and café exclusively for the use of Nine employees and visitors. The space is also designed to be used for activations, promotions and broadcasts.

Nine will also have a street level news studio, visible to public.

North Sydney Train Station is a 500m walk the new Victoria Cross Station will be directly across the road.

Nine’s Willoughby studios, which have been its headquarters for over 60 years, were sold for $147.5 million but it retains a lease until 2021.

  1. Certainly a peek.
But where are studios for the big shows going to be made? That is shows with an audience, variety shows (if they ever return), game shows. Outsourcing?

  2. Parking will be a nightmare in North Sydney I imagine. Nine has been at Willoughby and Seven was not in the city for decades, so not good for people who work there now.

    1. Willoughby is in the middle of suburban housing whereas North Sydney can be accessed by train, bus, and uber and is in the centre of a shopping precinct.

  3. Can’t say I’m in love with the look. Nine seem to be going for very urban, generic, ‘block’ (no pun intended) modern looks? I use Nine Melbourne (which I passed on Wurundjeri Way this afternoon, it’s above, in the cross-ways between Southern Cross Stan and Etihad Stadium – I’m sure you’ve been there a plenty David) and Nine Perth.

I do like the idea of real Sydney back-drops, whether it be street or high rise/harbour views. But are Nine News Sydney going to be airing the street-view? I hope they don’t, wouldn’t look identifying enough, like a graphic of harbour or bridge. Seven News Sydney ran a street-view in the early 2000s didn’t they, when Martin Place was acquired, I’ve seen some videos with Ian Ross and Ann Sanders and it didn’t look amazing. Just my opinions of course.

  4. As a point of difference I hope 9 will secure floors to take in the magnificent views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Imagine watching Today with those icons as a backdrop. One thing I don’t like about Sunrise is the distracting element in the background. Lately it seems every man and his dog have some issue the rest of us need to know and use Sunrise to get their point across.
