Renewed: Rick and Morty

Here to stay. Cult US animation has been renewed for a whopping 70 episodes.

Cult US animation Rick and Morty has been renewed for a whopping 70 episodes.

The order by Adult Swim is for more than double the count of episodes it has already produced to date (31 across 5 years).

Should co-creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon maintain their current production schedule, this will keep the show on the air for as long as another decade. The 101 episode output puts the show 1 episode past the magic 100 syndication.

Rick and Morty was US TV’s No. 1 comedy, cable or broadcast, amongst millennials in 2017. With adults 18-24 and 18-34, the show even topped The Big Bang Theory, Modern Family and Saturday Night Live.

Last month Adult Swim dropped an April Fool’s parody by Australian animator Michael Cusack.

Rick & Morty airs in Australia on Comedy and 9GO!, with a deal ending in July.

  1. I quite enjoy Rick and Morty. Even though it’s animated the show isn’t for kids. David what’s the latest on Bob’s Burgers? Any plans for it to return on free-to-air?

    1. 10 per season so far. Season 1 has 11 episodes, presumably because the Pilot episode was produced separately (in terms of the production schedule) to the rest of the season, which is quite a common occurrence with U.S. shows. I could be wrong though.
