Sunday Night snares interview with former deputy PM

Fierce bidding war results in Seven deal worth $150,000.

Former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce and his partner Vikki Campion have reportedly agreed to a deal for a Sunday Night interview with Alex Cullen.

According to News Corp, a fierce bidding war against 60 Minutes resulted in Seven deal worth $150,000.

Joyce finally stepped down from his position as deputy prime minister following headlines surrounding his relationship with Campion, who was previously one of his staff members. A child was born on 16 April but Joyce is still married but separated from his first wife, Natalie.

Reports claim the couple negotiated the deal with the TV network themselves, rather than using an agent.

  1. This is appalling, but i reckon it will rate its socks off, & that’s all that matters to TV networks nowdays.. People seem to be more & more interested in watching trash tv & gossip, now they will get to hear what they’ve been gossiping about from the horses mouth so to speak. News is more about what is a hot topic now than what is an important topic. eg Cocaine Cassie, & i bet there’s alot of people who have forgotten her long ago.

  2. What a hypocrite. He whined a helluva lot about the media should respect his privacy …but as soon as lots of money is involved , he is happy to spill the beans. Hopefully this will be a ratings dud. We viewers must take a stand and refuse to watch this rubbish. I feel sorry for his daughters – one of them who campaigned against him in New England.

  3. A pity the networks were not as prepared to throw money at Natalie, you know, the one that is left raising another family. What a disgrace a sitting member of parliament can seek out and receive such an absurd amount of money to inform his constituents how to play dirty and come up trumps. Shame. Shame. Shame.

  4. This is the kind of “cash for access” scandal beloved of the newspapers.

Why is a currently serving politician asking for and accepting payment for an interview?

And why are SevenWest paying him?

This is no less than a threat to democracy.

    1. Interesting comments on “Insiders” this morning regarding how the payment is apparently going to a trust set up for the kid. Tax accountants were asking how that works. They are most anxious to know.

    2. Technically, they are supposedly (according to newscorp) paying the $150k into a trust fund for Sebastian. His parents will not have access to it at all, as it will be independently managed by lawyers.

      1. So, lawyers and accountants “managing” this $150,000 for 20 years. Administration fees, Trustee’s meetings, Resolutions, Accounts, Tax returns, etc., every year until the kid’s 21, at $7,500/year = um, $150,000.

  5. This better not be a puff piece. I hope they ask him about the water theft & corruption. They’re the questions we all want answers to.
