Axed: The Royals

This series about a fictional British royal family is about to premiere on Stan.

US produced super-soap The Royals, which is about to debut in Australia on Stan, has just been given the axe.

4 seasons of the series, featuring Elizabeth Hurley, chart the ups and downs of a fictional British royal family as they struggle to keep their eventful personal lives becoming public scandal.

“E! will not be moving forward with another season of The Royals, which launched in 2015 as the network’s first original scripted series,” an E! network spokesperson said in a statement. “Over four seasons, The Royals took viewers behind the palace gates on a scandalous journey filled with twists and turns. We are grateful to the cast and our producing partners at Lionsgate and Universal Cable Productions.”

However Lionsgate is exploring a deal with a different cable outlet, Pop,to keep the show alive.

Seasons 1-4 of The Royals will screen on Stan from Friday August 31.

  1. I think people have had enough of all this Royal family TV and movies fiction which is just basically exploitation of which their have been many examples since the death of Diana. One look at the cringing photo (above) from this show sums it all up for me.

  2. It got 4 seasons? ?

I mean, from what I saw of the first season it had its moments – but they were few, and very very far between. It was mostly “think of the dumbest, most obvious Royal family joke/stereotype you possibly can … no, dumber than that … no, more obvious still … nope, you’re still not low enough … aw, heck, let’s just let the writers think of the dumbest stuff they can, jam it all together as obviously as possible, then we’ll workshop it down from there…”
