The Block, Doctor Doctor deliver Nine winning Monday.

Ratings: The Block doubles the competition as Dance Boss & Australian Survivor battle it out for the spoils.

It was no contest last night as The Block effectively doubled Dance Boss and Australian Survivor.

Nine pulled an impressive 1.14m viewers for its reno show and topped the demos, leaving Seven and TEN to battle it out. Dance Boss debuted to 599,000 viewers (but would probably prefer I told you that in 28 days) just ahead of Australian Survivor on 592,000. Both were behind Australian Story on 639,000.

Doctor Doctor returned to 726,000, just below its 2017 season premiere of 758,000, beating out Have You Been Paying Attention? on 661,000 (for the most part the two were neck and neck). Four Corners, Media Watch and Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back followed.

Seven was stronger early in the evening with Seven News and The Chase winning. ACA won for Nine again.

The Chef’s Line returned to 55,000 for SBS.

  1. Do love Dance Boss as it is one of the feel good positive program on TV at the moment. Not just about dance but quite fun to see different ppl from different backgrounds/age groups etc to be so brave to dance on the stage.

    1. I agree, it was feel good entertainment. Brief backstory and judging comments! The “on notice” was awkward and judges yelling their scores seemed less thoughtful.
But better than bitch’n kitchen and bitch’n house rules?!

      1. Tina Bursill was excellent. Any reason why the opening theme has been changed to an instrumental version? I miss the original with vocals.

  2. Survivor dropped only about 20k from the previous ep on Thursday, which is pretty good considering it was up against The Block this time.

    1. Well Dance Boss is giving similar figures but plummeting in demos so we will see, its only episode 1. Seven have also persisted with Single Wives dropping below 300k.

    1. It was hardly an “encore”. A repeat maybe. Guess being beaten by 7, 9 and ABC, and losing two-thirds of you audience “doesn’t seem so bad”.

  3. How the Block rates baffles me. I find it boring now after watching the 1st n 2nd season. Mind you gets a huge lead-in from the news. Survivor would rate better if it had a better lead-in program.

    1. Each season is quite different. Last year was the row of 5 salvaged weatherboard houses. This year is another former hotel where the rooftop penthouses are merely a slab of concrete.

I’m barracking for the netball girls ?

    2. Huh? The block added another 100k from its lead in, so I’d hardly thank the news for the high figure.

Still, it’s a consistent rater for 9 and year on year props up their lacklustre back end of the ratings season. I bet any network would love to have this show in their schedule despite the obvious dislike of it here amongst the commentators.
