Airdate: 1000 Greatest Rock Songs Ever

It's a solid rock long weekend on MAX.

A MAX music special 1000 Greatest Rock Songs Ever will air over the long weekend.

NRL presenter Matty Johns will front the event screening from Friday  – Monday with an array of sports faces also talking rock music.

Foxtel’s Group General Manager, Entertainment & Music channels, Fraser Stark said: “MAX is the home of music greats and, across this October Long Weekend, will also host some of Australia’s sporting greats as it counts down the 1000 Greatest Rock Songs Ever.

“As we farewell the winter codes and ready ourselves for a summer of cricket like never before, we have assembled an enviable list of sporting legends to lend their voice, their vote and their commentary to Australia’s favourite rock classics. Rock out with sporting superstars all weekend long – only on MAX.”

This October long weekend, MAX, – the home of legendary countdowns, has assembled the most iconic names in Australian sport to count down The 1000 Greatest Rock Songs Ever, and celebrate the start of footy Grand Final fever across the country.

From 10am Friday 28th September until Monday October 1, rock fan and NRL legend, Matty Johns, along with the cream of Australian sport, will dust off their electric air guitars and bust out their inner rock god, as they count down from 1000 to 1, and share their own personal memories of the rock songs that have influenced them the most. From AC/DC to the Foo Fighters, and every rock act in between, MAX will play them all, non-stop, over four massive days of solid rock.

The roster of sport star royalty confirmed to appear include: Cricket gods: Shane Warne, Brett Lee, Adam Gilchrist, Mike Hussey, Alan Border, Brendon Julian, Darren Lehman, Ian Healy, Andrew Symonds and Kerry O’Keeffe; NRL legends: Mal Meninga ,Justin Hodges, Mick Ennis and Steve Roach; Rugby Union king: George Gregan ; AFL champions: Jason Dunstall and Dermott Brereton; Olympic hero: Matt Shirvington, Soccer star: Robbie Slater, and cricket commentator Mark Howard.

Begins 10am Friday on MAX.

  1. Bit of hyperbole – many great rock songs are excluded as the videos aren’t HD enough and many aren’t close to being rock – Oliva Newton John, No Doubt, Abba, Kylie, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Pet Shop Boys etc, etc
