SBS on Demand: The State

Critically-acclaimed ISIS drama to screen via SBS On Demand.

SBS On Demand tomorrow debuts The State a 4 part ISIS drama written and directed by Peter Kosminsky (Wolf Hall).

This was produced as part of National Geographic’s recent move into drama and drew strong reviews (mine is here). It premiered on Pay TV last year.

All episodes will drop at once.

The State
Thursday, 6 September
Four young British male and female ISIS recruits are excited to begin their new lives in Syria. Jalal and Ziyaad enjoy the male camaraderie as they are trained and equipped for battle, while Shakira and Ushna are taught the strict rules women must obey. They take oaths of allegiance to ISIS, convinced they’ve made the right decision to come, but are soon confronted by the harsh realities of life under ISIS, which don’t match their expectations. Based on extensive factual research, The State offers an unflinching insight into the horrific actions of ISIS. Written and directed by Peter Kosminsky, The State stars Ony Uhiara, Sam Otto, Hiam Abbass, and Nana Agyeman-Bediako.

  1. All these shows that debut on SBS on Demand seems like they’re hedging there bets that one day they’ll be asked to move to online only like the Government want Community TV to do.

    1. There’s no issue for me with streaming whole seasons to binge on but you do need a good broadband plan and not every one wants to pay for their evenings viewing. The SBS plainly see their SBS on Demand as conducive to keeping a good media profile, if it’s on your Smart TV you can hardly ignore it.
