True Story with Hamish & Andy: Sept 25

This week on True Story with Hamish & Andy, tree lopper Murray remembers an experience at the beginning of his career.

In the mid 1980s Murray was in his twenties, working as a gardener but looking for a new challenge. After chopping down some trees for a neighbour and being tipped $50, he’d found his calling – tree lopping. He placed an ad in the local paper, but it wasn’t an easy business to crack and the other local tree loppers made it known that there was no room for him on the scene. Unperturbed, Murray stuck with it, and before he knew it he got a call from the local hospital asking for a quote on a huge job. What follows takes Murray deep into the secretive world of tree loppers where he discovers an expert axeman addicted to salt sachets, known as The Oracle, and a hospital where quoting the right price turns out to be the least of his worries.
