  1. Elementary’s budget has been cut and it was moved to Summer on CBS, but they kept on renewing it because it was profitable due to streaming and OS rights. The final was open ended because CBS hadn’t picked up S6 for a full season so it was designed to be the shows final episode at #13. When CBS did pick up for another 8 eps, they had to fill with Micheal going on sabbatical during Sherlock’s illness, then returned for the ending. S7 starts 12 months later with Sherlock and Joan still in London. CBS has decided 13 eps us enough to wind it up. With attention focused on All Access they aren’t in making content for rival streaming services like Hulu (now controlled by Disney).

  2. I watched the season 6 finale of Elementary and the ending made me think it was the final episode ever. But thank goodness it has been renewed for another season. I just hope it gets a good ending, not like Scorpion, Under The Dome and Zoo, which did not get good endings at all.

    1. Yes indeed Aeddie, the concluded shows you mention went out with a whimper and very little to recommend them, but in reality it should have been expected especially for those multi-season shows which only had a limited plot in the first place and standard American formulaic scripting. Elementary did have a consistency about it helped along by a pair of excellent actors who know their craft, though Jonny Lee Miller could not resist being overtly hammy occasionally, which is not unusual for Brits in U.S. shows.

  3. Lucy Liu and Johnny Lee Miller have had fantastic chemistry and we’ve loved every season. I think a dignified exit is best for the show. Will be sorry to see it go but I think it’s time.

  4. The way the last season ended I wonder if they thought it may not get renewed. It could have been a series finale. Let’s hope they give it a good ending unlike bloody Scorpion earlier in the year. A lot of very angry fans at that ending.

    1. Yes, I did read in an article that the season 6 finale was open ended enough that they were happy for it to have been the series finale, just in case it was not renewed.

The same article went to point out that season 7 will jump forward in time (similar to what happened in the original stories). I guess we’ll all have to wait and see how it unfolds.
