Airdate: Sex Education

Adult themes

New UK comedy-drama Sex Education begins next week on Netflix.

It stars Asa Butterfield as a teenage virgin who lives with his sex therapist mother, played by Gillian Anderson, teaming up with a high school classmate to start their own health clinic.

Meet Otis Milburn – an inexperienced, socially awkward high school student who lives with his mother, a sex therapist. Surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis is a reluctant expert on the subject. When his home life is revealed at school, Otis realizes that he can use his specialist knowledge to gain status. He teams up with Maeve, a whip-smart bad-girl, and together they set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems. Through his analysis of teenage sexuality, Otis realises he may need some therapy of his own.

Friday January 11 on Netflix.

  1. This quirky comedy could become a dark horse success but we wont find out from Netflix unless it’s renewed for season 2, I suspect Sex Education wont suit everyone though because of the adult content of some episodes but apart from the 20 something actors playing 16 year old’s and the shows use of genitalia as a comedic prop it’s worth a look and does provide some laughs and relationship twists which are not all that difficult to figure out.
