New ABC soap The Heights will screen on Friday nights from late February.

Based around the inner-city neighbourhood of Arcadia Heights the 30 part series will air in double episodes each week and the whole series will be available for bingeing on ABC iview.

From the producers of The Slap and Barracuda, The Heights is a charming and entertaining serial drama exploring the relationships between the residents of the Arcadia social housing tower and the people who live in the rapidly gentrifying community that surrounds it. It’s a program that the whole family can enjoy together and one that will make audiences laugh, think and emotionally engage with.

Shari Sebbens (The Sapphires, Thor: Ragnarok), Marcus Graham (Secret City, Cleverman), and Roz Hammond (Shaun Micallef’s Mad As Hell) are just a few of The Heights’ impressive ensemble cast. Amongst these well-known faces are exciting emerging talents, including Phoenix Raei (Romper Stomper, Mustangs FC), Yazeed Daher (Safe Harbour), Bridie McKim, Callen Tassone (Red Dog) and Carina Hoang.

The Heights is a series driven by inclusivity both on and off screen and tackles a wide range of social issues faced by everyday Australians of all ages, from all walks of life, reflecting the melting pot of modern urban Australia.

Shot in Western Australia, The Heights provided a huge boost to the local television industry, employing nearly 100 local crew and casting 93 speaking and extras roles, including several first-time actors, writers and directors.

The Heights is produced by Matchbox Pictures and For Pete’s Sake Productions for ABC and developed and produced with the assistance of ABC in association with Screenwest, Lotterywest and NBCUniversal. International sales will be handled by NBCUniversal Distribution.

8:30pm Friday February 22 on ABC.

  2. Double eps on a Friday night?-little faith in it from the ABC obviously and not likely to appeal to the older “Silent Witness/Midsommer Murders” viewers that are the mainstay of the slots there on 2.

  4. 8:30pm Fridays is often a destination for Australia drama on the ABC (eg Doctor Blake, Miss Fisher) so somewhat fits, although might be a mismatch for the demographic watching Gardening Australia

    Could have been a good idea for 8pm Tuesdays for an hour? Then Foreign Correspondent or Catalyst at 9pm?

  5. Gee wizz way to bury it on a Friday. Terrible. Ill watch this on iView though hopefully its decent and doesnt get canx after one season. I reakon mon-thus 6pm for 7-8 weeks would have been better. Or 2 nights a week at the same time wed/thurs 9pm or something.

  6. Looking forward to this. I think it would be better if screened with 2 separate eps a week or 1 a week rather than double episodes. Tuesdays and Thursdays perhaps? Maybe double eps at the end of the week? Hmm.
